Becoming a better global citizen is not only good for the environment, but great economically.

In recent years, analysis of our carbon footprint in combination with rising energy bills lead Frew Foods to change the way we consumed energy.

Combining our environmental projects, we have reduced out total CO2 emissions by 1000 tonnes per annum.

Renewable Energy

1.7mWh of solar panels were installed on the roof, and in the lairage to provide shade for the lambs. This provides up to 70% of our daily power demand during the summer.

We are presently investigating the investment into wind energy to further reduce our demand on the energy grid.

Biomass

100% of our hot water is now provided through our 3mWh Justsen boiler. Waste pine sawdust from a timber mill is burnt to heat the water.

This measure has reduced our natural gas consumption by 90%.
